far far away

All my Young Adult recommendations are accidental.  I don’t have a grudge against it or anything – more and more it’s YA that keeps my paychecks flowing – it’s just that there’s a flood of books out there to wade through.  With Becky sorting out the children’s and young adult, it’s just a sensible division of resources to stick to the adult titles and let her tell me that Au Revoir Crazy European Chick is a great boy-read.

I don’t know why I picked up Far Far Away.  Maybe the cover?  But by the time I realized I was reading a Young Adult book, I was caught.  This a modern fable that’s as charming, eerie, magical, and dangerous as you want it to be.  I also happen to love coming-of-age stories, so that’s just a bonus.  With a title and cover like that, you better bring the goods.

Tom McNeal delivers.

Sometimes avoiding something can give it more and more meaning rather than less and less.

  1. I’m not familiar with the author, but you’re right, that’s a great cover. I’d have picked it up just for that reason alone.

    1. He and his wife have co-written a number of YA books and they also have works of their own. http://www.mcnealbooks.com/books.aspx

Far Far Away makes me want to read them all, but you know how intentions are.

  2. ‘Yup, I certainly do know about intentions,’ he said, referring to his bookshelves and the plentiful stack of “I’mgonnareads”. 🙂
